SEPTEMBER 2018

The month of September has always been a period of extra significance and comfort for caregivers and persons young and old living with dementia. It marks the annual World Alzheimer’s Month (WAM), a time when the global community casts its spotlight on the disease and its effects on the memories and lives afflicted by it. It also brings stories of courage, resilience, compassion, and love that can inspire us both in the way we view persons with dementia and how we can help to play our part.

The 2018 World Alzheimer’s Month conference provides such an opportunity. Themed #Every3Seconds, the one-and-a-half-day event brings with it a message of urgency and will feature a line-up of keynote speakers who will help illuminate the nature of dementia and how all of us having a role to create dementia-friendly communities. By attending #WAM2018, you are already taking that all-important first step towards tearing down the persistent stigma associated with dementia. Time is ticking – are you ready to make a difference? If you are, sign up now (before 14 September).

Feel free to send this to anyone you know who would be interested in attending the conferences. They can also subscribe here to receive our e-newsletter.

FEATURE STORIES

To kick off World Alzheimer’s Month, Lien Foundation and ADA launched Connecting video series online with tips and personal stories on how best to support people with dementia. Conceptualised by caregivers themselves, these bite-sized clips and “All That Remains” graphic novel were released on 4 September 2018. Check them out at Forget Us Not website!

We have recently agreed to collaborate on an interesting new initiative by The GIVEN Company, a proudly Singaporean social enterprise which aims to make charity fundraising more efficient, effective and sustainable by employing alternative technology-based solutions. READ MORE HERE.
