MARCH 2019

March brings to a close the flurry of festivities; from Christmas to the New Year, and even the Lunar New Year for many of us. As we settle back into our routine, there’s no better time to examine our caregiving and see how we can help to contribute to a more dementia-friendly community.

Over the last year, we’ve heard from dementia advocates like Kate Swaffer, Dennis Frost, and George Chong. Their stories may differ, but they echo similar themes – the courage to keep facing forward instead of waiting for the end, and working to dispel the stigma with regards to dementia.

These voices are proof that dementia does not have to mean the end. With support from their loved ones and the community, people with dementia can lead fulfilling lives. Working towards a dementia-friendly community is something that starts with us. By having conversations with your friends and family and spreading awareness, we’ll be helping others to understand dementia better. It’s all part of the first steps towards a dementia-friendly and inclusive Singapore. How are you helping to spread awareness about dementia?
